MILESTONES IN LBDI’S HISTORY

 

Celebrated its 42nd Anniversary on Friday, November 23, 2007

1961

Act by the National Legislature creating the Bank as Liberian Bank for Industrial Development & Investment (LBIDI)

1965

Commenced Development Banking Operations

1974

Amendment of the Act, the changing the Bank’s

name to the Liberian Bank for Development & Investment (LBDI)

1980

Coup d’etat leading to military government

 

Major write down of Bank Loan Portfolio as a result of the Coup d’Etat

1988         

Commenced Commercial Banking Activities

 

1989

Advent of Liberian Civil War

1990

Closed in June 1990 due to the civil crisis

1991

Relocated to a temporary office on Carey Street

1992

Acquired the former Citibank Office at Ashmun & Randall

Streets and relocated LBDI Head Office to that building

 

1997

Established Western Union Service

 

Established Harbel Branch

1999

Established Bushrod Island Western Union Window

2000

Established LBDI Paynesville Western Union

 

2001

Established Head Office Savings Annex & Western Union Center at Ashmun Street

 

Launched Western Union Subagent network

2002

Restored regular Dividend payment to shareholders

2003

Received Special Western Union Award for

outstanding services

2004

Launched Real Estate Rehabilitation Loan Scheme

 

 

 

2005

Major upgrade of network and communications

Infrastructure

 

Completed and opened the LBDI  Paynesville Community

Branch

 

Launched two MSME Credit Schemes; Women Empowerment Programs (WEP) And Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP)

 

 

 

2006

Expanded operations at LBDI’s Bushrod Island

Branch to full banking services

 

Opened dedicated Western Union window in

Duala

 

Commissioned a new data center providing a more secure,

controlled and professional environment for the Bank’s mission critical equipment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2007

Established LBDI Ganta Branch

 

Established LBDI Buchanan Branch

 

Signed agreement with IFC for a Two Million Dollars facility under its Global Trade Financing Program

 

Finalized Debit Restructuring Agreement with GOL/MOF

 

Opened LBDI RIA Branch to include Western Union and Commercial activities

 

Expanded operations at LBDI Duala Branch to full banking services
